Meshwork Press was a Pittsburgh letterpress studio and creative hub for young people to explore the fascinating blend of ink and big ideas.
Back in the very early days of Bright Archives—before we had our LLC setup—our friends Haylee Ebersole and Kyrie Bushaw reached out to us to make an introduction video for Meshwork Press, their letterpress studio. Before closing in 2024 after five years in business, each week, Meshwork Press would print a variety of greeting cards. The cards were designed in-house and sometimes in collaboration with Pittsburgh artists. Lilac, true blue, neon pink, and Pittsburgh-bright yellow were frequent colors of choice. Illustrations were paired with encouraging, enthusiastic text. One card read, “Ok, you’re baby is seriously the cutest.” Another went, “Wishing you moments of deep stillness this holiday season.”
But Meshwork was more than beautiful letterpress prints. They played a part in their community of Wilkinsburg, partnering with the Wilkinsburg Youth Project (WYP) and The Braddock Youth Project (BYP) to provide year-round art & design programming.
Primary Goal
Meshwork Press wanted a professionally produced video to document their business, showcase their greeting cards, and explain how they use printmaking to engage with and enliven their community.
Our Solution
Tapping into years of experience and expertise in oral history and documentaries, we produced an introduction video filled with engaging B-roll showing the printing process and a welcoming voiceover that conveyed Meshwork’s mission.
To start, we brought cameras into Meshwork’s studio in Wilkinsburg to film Kyrie packaging greeting cards and Haylee printing new work on their 1929 Chandler and Price platen press. At a second film shoot, we documented summer youth artists screen printing, bookbinding, and designing. We conducted interviews with youth artists Karma, Charleigh, Truth, and Jayda, and recorded an initial voice-over with Haylee. As the process developed, professional voice-over artist Annie Huntington recorded the final script, and musician Robby Swiech composed original music for the video. We crafted all of these elements into the final video.

The Results
As a result of this project, Meshwork Press featured the video on the homepage of their website. The video acted as the gateway to the business’s online shop, youth programming opportunities, and retail shopping options.
