Studio Documentation with Dafna Rehavia and David Hanauer
In November 2023, we were honored to support the work of artist Dafna Rehavia and poet/artist David Hanauer by documenting their studio practices, producing a series of promotional videos, and assisting with audio-visual needs for their Invisible Wounds exhibition at Artists Image Resource (AIR).
“An invisible wounds is a silent echo of pain, a hidden scar etched deep within the body. It is an unseen bruise and a quiet ache that lingers in the shadow of the mind. These wounds, shape our stories as they whisper from generation to generation. They are the silent battles we fight, the unspoken sorrows we feel, the unseen challenges we carry with us.” - Dafna Rehavia and David Hanauer
Work on the project began in March 2024. We arrived at Dafna and David’s studios in the Radiant Hall Susquehanna building, camera in hand, to document their studio practices. (This is the same location where we filmed our Bright Archives announcement video.) David filled notebook pages with collages of torn paper, drawings, tape, and handwritten poems, while Dafna developed mixed-media pieces that incorporated layers of fabric, printed text, and material applications that produced textures and soft, off-white colors.
Screen Printing
In September 2024, David’s practice moved to a new location, Artists Image Resource, where he could develop large-sale, two-layer screen prints. These works combine a layer of handwriting in gold ink with images of his grandparents and father.
Workshop
As the project continued, we filmed a workshop for Dafna and David where attendees created one-word poems. They selected wood type letters, devised the layout, and then had AIR staff print the results. The poems were displayed alongside Dafna and David’s work in the Invisible Wounds exhibition, curated by Oreen Cohen, at Artists Image Resource. The exhibition opened on October 14, 2024 and runs through November 22, 2024.
Final Walkthrough
Our final deliverable for the project will be a walkthrough video of the exhibition, offering viewers a glimpse into the show and the intentions behind the artwork. The video will also give Dafna and David crucial documentation of the exhibition for their personal archives.
